Nissan picks Decherd, Tenn., plant to make motor assemblies for U.S.-built electric vehicles
Nissan Americas today confirmed that, starting in early 2013, it will produce the electric motor for the Nissan LEAF – the world’s first all-electric, zero-emission vehicle designed for the mass market – at its Decherd, Tenn., powertrain assembly plant. Preparation of the plant for electric motor production, facilitated by U.S. Department of Energy Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Incentive Program loan funds, will include addition of a new assembly line and will create up to 90 new jobs. When the new assembly line is completed, the plant will have the capacity to produce up to 150,000 electric motors annually for Nissan LEAFs, which will be built at the company’s assembly plant in Smyrna, Tenn.

Nissan begins global proving tests for NV200 based electric vehicles
YOKOHAMA - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. will begin global proving tests starting July 2011 of an electric vehicle (EV) based on the compact commercial vehicle NV200. For the first phase, the Japan Post Service Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Shinichi Nabekura) will carry out a test in Japan starting July. One test vehicle will be provided to carry out postal collection and delivery tasks for approximately two months in the city of Yokohama, Kanagawa prefecture, to evaluate the vehicle's capabilities under a customer's normal usage conditions. Later, similar proving tests will be carried out both in Japan and Europe, where similar evaluations will be carried out with other companies.

Nissan North America reports best sales month in history
Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today reported March U.S. sales of 121,141 units versus 95,468 units a year earlier, an increase of 26.9 percent, and a record for any month in the company’s history. Nissan Division sales also set a new sales record, up 28.4 percent for the month at 109,854 units. Sales of Infiniti vehicles rose 13.5 percent over the prior year, to 11,287 units.

Europen-wide green eMOTION initiative to pave the way for electromobility
Brussels - The European Commission has kicked off a 4-year cross-European initiative to promote electromobility. The 42 partners in the initiative comprising industrial companies, automobile manufacturers, utilities, municipalities, universities, and technology and research institutions will input, exchange and expand their know-how and experience related to electric vehicles in selected regions within Europe. "Electromobility will make an important contribution toward reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Green eMotion is intended to ensure the fast-track success of electric vehicles," said Siim Kallas, Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner responsible for Transport. The project volume has been budgeted at EUR 42 million, of which the EU will contribute as much as EUR 24 million.

Nissan net income at 80.1 billion yen in third quarter
YOKOHAMA - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today announced financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2010, ending March 31, 2011, as well as the first nine months. In the third quarter, the consolidated net income totaled 80.1 billion yen (US $970 million, euro 710 million), an increase of 35.1 billion yen compared with the same period last year.

Nissan and Mazda Agree on New OEM Contract
YOKOHAMA/HIROSHIMA, Japan - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Mazda Motor Corporation today announced that the two companies have agreed to expand the scope of Mazda's original equipment manufacturing (OEM) supply to Nissan. Nissan Progresses Construction of Electric Vehicle Battery Plant in Tennessee
Construction is progressing on Nissan’s manufacturing facility in Smyrna, Tenn., which will produce lithium-ion batteries to power the Nissan LEAF zero-emission vehicle. The all-electric Nissan LEAF will be produced at Nissan’s vehicle assembly facility in Smyrna beginning in late 2012.
